Chapter 6-
Need Someone
Craig
had had a crush on Kiley Blitzkrieg since they were children. But she was
always involved with someone else. Finally, she had married Bobby Imaga and had
4 kids. When she had caught him in bed with Tammy Red though she had had enough
and Craig had come riding to her rescue. The moment the door had shut behind
Kristine, Craig had called Kiley up and offered a place for her and her kids to
stay.
Craig
had taken pains to stay close friends with Kiley through the years and she had
readily agreed to move in. She found it hard to take care of all her children
by herself. Bobby had never been very involved, and was usually pretty
standoffish towards her too.
When
she walked in the door, Craig felt as though the toxic atmosphere Kristine had
left behind had blown out. Kiley was here now.
She was
tired and broke, aging early and with a very jaded view of life. Craig only saw
the girl with pigtails on the playground he had tried so hard to impress. It
wasn’t that he had never impressed her, but had impressed her cousin Kiana,
William’s mother, even more.
But now
she was here, he wanted to tell her everything. He wanted to have the love his
parents had had, and he wanted it with Kiley.
“You
know, I’ve loved you since we were kids.”
“I
know.”
Craig
was just feeling the relief of having admitted his unrequited love when the
gate clanged and Heather walked in. He had been so upset over Kristine leaving,
and Kiley moving in he hadn’t had much time to really get to know her. And
right now, he was concerned about what she was seeing. Her own mother often had
several men on the go, including Kiley’s ex-husband, and he didn’t want himself
or Kiley to look too fast to her. Oh, well.
Kiley’s
oldest daughter, Velma, walked in next. Craig noted how Kiley visibly stiffened
as the girl walked in. He knew they were always having trouble with her, and
that boarding school was even being suggested as a way to get her in line. He
knew that Kiley didn’t want to appear loose to her daughter any more than he
did.
Velma
was disgusted. Her parents never allowed her to act like that with boys. Yet
here was her mother, nearly drooling over this guy who wasn’t very good looking
even. But then Velma looked again at the house. Maybe the house and money was
why her mom was doing this. Yeah. That had to be it.
But
Craig had finally gotten up the courage to touch Kiley when his son walked in
the door. Rotten timing.
He felt
Kiley gently pull away, but wasn’t ready to relinquish what he had waited so
long for. William could wait.
William
knew Kiley through his father’s stories well. Though she had left her husband
not a week ago, and Kristine had just finished moving out that morning.
But
Heather lived here now. His dad had understood that William needed someone who
was there for him.
He
totally didn’t notice Daphne walk in. He had decided that his dad was happy,
and was acting like he had never acted with Kristine. Maybe he could pick up
tips.
Daphne
stood stock still. She didn’t want to turn and face her mother like that.
William had taken to studying Kiley’s face intently, as if trying to read
something there.
Daphne
slowly turned to look at her mother and her new love. She had never seen her
parents look at each other like that. But wasn’t it still a little early after
she had left Bobby?
Daphne
waved nervously at her mother, half hoping she wouldn’t be seen.
William
watched closely.
“Was
that how you did that?” He’d have to try with Heather later.
Getting
his eyeful, he turned to Daphne, knowing she struggled to understand what the
teacher said in Chemistry often.
“If you
like, we could do our Chem homework together. Maybe think of things the other
hasn’t thought of yet.” He just hoped that Heather wouldn’t take his offer the
wrong way. Heather understood things quite quickly and didn’t need his help.
Besides,
if things kept up, Daphne might end up as a sister.
Velma
had peeked in the living room earlier. Why couldn’t she get away with such
behavior? It wasn’t fair and she just didn’t like it.
She
didn’t like it at all.

Sunshyne's note to Shakespeare-
That is the true story of Craig and Kiley. I saw that she and her
husband had broken up and couldn’t resist putting these two together. I like
Kiley too. She reminds me a lot of William’s mom. She brought her 4 kids with
her: Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake, Marcie Harper, and Fred Jones. (I'll make a batch of cookies for you if you figure those out.) Heather moved
in the same day and the house is very full now. Velma has almost every boy in
town on the go, though the only “ex-boyfriend” she has is now an adult, and
he’s the only one she wants. Fast thing. Daphne is coupled with Oscar Imaga.
They make a sweet couple, he seems a bit doofy but as she's an ice queen it works.
